My grandmother Ethel grew up on a farm. Her father didnít want her to go to high school, and college was unthinkable. He didnít believe in educating women. She ran away from home and stayed with her scandalous Aunt Luella, the one who got married in a fuchsia dress (so she could wear it again, and she did). She got a job in a candy store. She bobbed her lovely long hair. She went to highschool, and college, and became a teacher, teaching for many decades. Sixty years after she graduated, she proudly showed her granddaughter her excellent final grades.
