The skies darken outside, and I walk to the post office. I stop on the way to talk to Melissa, the apartment manager to see if she knows if the rents will be raised this fall. She says not for me. This will be the fourth year I have gone without a rent increase. She asks if my son flipped his truck, explaining that one like his had flipped in the parking lot. I dont think so, I said. He would have said something.

I looked at it, she said. I didnt see any more damage than usual on it.
