I'm dog-sitting tonight.

I told my friend that I wouldn't take my eyes off him, but in fact it is the dog who will not take his eyes off of me. He follows me around my tiny apartment, alert to my every move. I think he likes my singing.

Now he is all-encompassingly focused on the piece of celery that I am eating. I don't know whether dogs can eat celery, otherwise I would share it with him. He seems content to watch me eat it, and my head swells with pride. To a dog, I am fascinating.
