My sister, who is a paramedic, says that suicide scenes are always disturbing, no matter what the chosen method was. “The hairs stand up on the back of your neck,” she says. “It just feels wrong somehow.” The first scene she was ever called to as a paramedic was the gunshot suicide of a 20 year old boy. Handsome, athletic, engaged to be married, he killed himself in the woods right behind his parents’ house. “You’d think he had everything to live for,” I exclaim. “You never know,” my sister says. “You never know why, even when there’s a note.”
