Not that she would have taken it. She wouldnít take his money, either, though he certainly had enough. She didnít want his pity. She went back to school, something that seemed almost absurd at her age (though later, she would look back and think how young she was, how naÔve), and became a librarian. She learned to drive, though she never felt completely comfortable behind the wheel. She had always thought that someone else would be driving to work.
