Billy pulls his English textbook out of his backpack, but the reading assignment is almost fifteen pages long. Itís this Irish guy James Joyce, and even though heís writing in English, it might as well be in Japanese, for all the sense it makes to Billy.Oh, whatís the point? he asks himself. Heís falling behind in his classes, and if his grades keep slipping, heís afraid heíll flunk something. That would mean summer school, which would also mean less time for his job at the garage and, maybe, less time for football practice.
