Jacksonian Democracy:

Jefferson and later Andrew Jackson had it right in that the Government’s job is to allow the people every opportunity to live up to their potential and not try to force their own authority over that potential. The government’s job is not to provide for the people, but to provide the optimum environment to allow people to provide for themselves. If you dig into the Housing Crisis, you’ll find plenty of Government regulation that played its role in creating an environment where people were encouraged to live beyond their means. It spiraled out of control quickly and collapsed.
